Young Storyteller of Wales, South 2010

Young Storyteller of Wales South / Storiwr Ifanc Cymru De 2010?

“It could be you!”

In the lead up to National Storytelling Week, St Donats Arts Centre is offering all budding young storytellers the opportunity to tell their traditional stories (not longer than five minutes) in Welsh or English or bilingually and compete to take the title of Young Storyteller of Wales 2010.

The South Wales heat will take place at Barry Library in Kings Square on Sunday 31 January, between 2pm - 5pm.

No experience is necessary and storytellers may perform as individuals, in a pair or a group of three.

All competitors will be judged by a panel of judges in one of three age categories: 8-11, 12-14 or 15-18 years old.

Prizes will be awarded to winners and ALL entrants will receive a certificate for taking part.

The 15-18 years winner will become Young Storyteller of Wales South 2010 and will represent Wales at The Young Storyteller of the Year Award on 13 March 2010 in Birmingham, with travel expenses paid.

The winner in each age category will receive a weekend ticket to Beyond The Border, Wales International Storytelling Festival at St Donats Castle, 2 – 4 July 2010.

Notes to Competitors:
Choose a story you REALLY want to tell - it should be based on a traditional story.
Find ways of keeping your audience gripped - look at them,
Cchange the pace and the volume, find voices for your characters!
You can use songs or instruments to accompany your story.
Make the story your own. Don’t learn the story off by heart - keep it alive.

Bydd Guto yn dweud storïau yn Gymraeg a’r Saesneg fel rhan o Ddiwrnod Cymraeg mae’r Ganolfan en ei drefnu i deuluoedd.

Guto Dafis tells stories with energy and humour, and sings and plays the melodion, and his droll warm-heartedness creates a special relationship with his audience.  He has performed as as a storyteller in festivals in Wales and England (Beyond the Border, Saint Donats; Lakeland Storytelling Festival; Glastonbury; Broadstairs Folk Week; etc); as well as travelling as a musician to Brittany, Ireland, Estonia and Scotland.

Guto will be telling stories in Welsh and English as part of the Centre’s St David’s Day celebrations.
