Chwedl, a network of women storytellers in Wales, is looking for young talented women storytellers in Wales – and is inviting them to apply for a commission, to create a new piece of performance storytelling.
The commission was created in 2016 in memory of Esyllt Harker, one of Wales’ leading storytellers, who died in 2014 and who played a unique and vital role in storytelling in Wales.
The commission will support the development of an emerging woman storyteller, born in Wales or currently living or working in Wales, aged 35 or under, who tells stories in English and Welsh, using song or music, as well as the spoken word.
The chosen storyteller will be supported to create a new work of performance storytelling to be performed at the 2020 Beyond the Border Festival.
How to apply:
Please send the following information to
Esyllt Harker Commission, c/o Ty Cynnes, Carrog, Corwen LL21 9LA
- Covering letter, including your proposal for the new work you would like to create
- CV with two referees
- Any relevant supporting evidence which demonstrates your track record as a storyteller (e.g. video, still photography, programmes, reviews, audience feedback etc.)
The deadline for applications is 10th May.
The recipient will be chosen by a panel of leading women storytellers and folk musicians who knew Esyllt Harker well and worked closely with her.
The outcome will be announced at the 2018 Beyond the Border Storytelling Festival at St Donat’s Castle, Vale of Glamorgan, 9-10 June
